Dandiya Under The Stars

Dandiya Under the Stars (DUTS) is House of India’s signature outdoor celebration that joyfully ushers in the festival of Dussehra in San Diego. Year after year, House of India proudly leads the community in marking the beginning of this vibrant season with an evening of music, rhythm, and tradition. Under the open sky, hundreds of community members gather in colorful attire to dance the spirited Dandiya Raas, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India. Filled with energy, laughter, and togetherness, DUTS has become one of our most beloved and anticipated events — a night where tradition meets community spirit under the stars.Write a short description, that will describe the title or something informational and useful.

International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day

A cornerstone of India’s cultural heritage, yoga embodies balance, mindfulness, and unity. Each June, House of India, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, San Francisco, proudly hosts and celebrates International Yoga Day on the beautiful International Lawn Area amidst the International Cottages in Balboa Park. Local San Diego yoga teachers lead the community through guided yoga sessions and meditation, creating a peaceful and uplifting atmosphere open to all ages and experience levels. Year after year, yoga practitioners across San Diego look forward to gathering in this serene setting to honor a tradition that connects body, mind, and spirit. This annual event reflects House of India’s commitment to sharing India’s timeless practices while fostering wellness, harmony, and cultural exchange within the broader community.
School Hosting

School Hosting

The House of India proudly opens its cottage on select Tuesdays for school visits as part of the International Cottages experience in Balboa Park. Students of all grade levels visit to explore the cultures of the world — and at the House of India, they are welcomed into an engaging, interactive journey through India’s rich heritage. Our volunteers lead age-appropriate presentations that introduce students to India’s history, geography, traditions, languages, festivals, and daily life. On special occasions such as Diwali, we offer hands-on cultural activities that allow students to experience traditions firsthand — from rangoli art to storytelling and festival customs. To extend learning beyond the visit, we have thoughtfully designed India Activity Workbooks that teachers can take back to their classrooms. These workbooks encourage collaborative group work, critical thinking, and creative exploration, giving students a deeper understanding of India long after their field trip. Beyond school programs, the House of India also participates in corporate and community family events. We have proudly partnered in initiatives such as Qualcomm’s QKids Family Weekend, where we set up cultural activity stations and provide vibrant entertainment for children and parents alike. From folk and classical dance to energetic Bollywood performances, our programs create joyful, memorable cultural experiences for families across San Diego.
Ethnic Food Fair

Ethnic Food Fair

Every Memorial Day weekend, the House of India proudly participates in the Ethnic Food Fair at Balboa Park. Food is at the heart of India’s culture, and we love sharing our rich flavors, spices, and traditional dishes with the community. Alongside more than 36 cultures presenting their cuisines, we invite visitors to taste India and celebrate the diversity that makes this event so special.
Independence Day Celebration

The House of India proudly collaborates with the Federation of India Associations (FIA) to celebrate India’s Independence Day and Republic Day in San Diego. Each program begins with a ceremonial Flag Hoisting, honoring the Indian tricolor and the values of freedom and democracy. The celebration continues with patriotic songs and vibrant cultural performances, including folk and classical dances that showcase India’s rich and diverse heritage. These gatherings bring together the San Diego Indian community to honor their motherland, celebrate their roots, and share the spirit of India with the next generation.

Festival of Lights

Deepotsav - Festival of Lights

The Festival of Lights in 2026 marked a historic and joyous celebration of Diwali in Balboa Park. For the first time, four organizations — House of India, the San Diego Indian American Society, Ekal Vidyalaya, and Sewa International — joined hands to host this spectacular community event. Spanning the beautiful Organ Pavilion and the Federal Lawn, the festival drew a record-breaking crowd. Guests enjoyed a vibrant marketplace filled with food vendors and stalls offering ethnic clothing, jewelry, and handcrafted treasures. The highlight of the evening was over four hours of cultural entertainment — music, dance, and performances representing India’s rich traditions — culminating in an energetic Dandiya when the attendees joined in. The Festival of Lights was a true reflection of unity, culture, and community spirit — bringing San Diego together to celebrate the joy and brilliance of Diwali.
