Mission Statement:
House of India is dedicated towards creating a greater awareness of India’s rich and varied culture in the San Diego community. Through active participation in the events organized by the House of Pacific Relations, and through its cottage situated in Balboa Park, the House promotes and showcases Indian art, history, music, dance, and ethnic food. This allows us to share the joy and spirit of Indian traditions in San Diego. House of India also provides an opportunity to interact with other cultures and promote universal understanding and goodwill.
What is House of India?
House of India (HOI) was founded in 2005 to enhance cultural awareness about India within the San Diego community and among the more than 12 million annual visitors to Balboa Park, America's largest urban cultural park. HOI is a nonprofit, tax-exempt California corporation, structured as a membership-based organization and governed by a Board. Additionally, HOI is a member of the House of Pacific Relations (HPR), a nonprofit consortium representing 33 countries dedicated to fostering universal peace, multicultural goodwill, and understanding.
What do we do?
For over two decades, the House of India has proudly promoted and celebrated India's vibrant art, rich history, music, dance, and diverse cuisine. Each year, we reach millions of visitors at Balboa Park through dynamic participation in signature events organized by the House of Pacific Relations, such as December Nights, Ethnic Food Fairs, and Cultural Lawn Programs. We also organize Dandiya Under the Stars in September to usher in Dussehra. Additionally, thousands of school children annually visit our cottage to experience and learn about India's fascinating culture firsthand.
